Description

Hunda Oli

Cooperative

The Hunda Oli cooperative is located in the Jimma region, one of Ethiopia's main coffee-producing areas. The region boasts a warm, humid climate, ideal for coffee cultivation, and is renowned for its uniquely flavored coffees.

Hunda Oli coffees are grown in the mountains of the region, at altitudes ranging from 1,500 to 2,000 meters above sea level. The coffees are hand-picked and processed using the natural method, in which the beans are left to dry in the sun before roasting. This method allows the beans to retain their natural flavor and aroma, producing coffees with notes of ripe fruit and a smooth, balanced body.

In addition to producing excellent coffees, the Hunda Oli cooperative also prides itself on being a socially responsible company. The cooperative's members have implemented sustainable practices on their farms, such as using organic fertilizers and conserving biodiversity on their land. Furthermore, the cooperative has established an education fund for its members and their children, enabling them to access quality education and improve their long-term quality of life.

In short, the Hunda Oli cooperative is committed to producing excellent coffees and the sustainable development of its members and community. It's a company worth supporting, and its delicious coffees are a must-try.

Process

The Hunda Oli cooperative's processing method is focused on producing the highest quality coffee possible. Therefore, constant selection is fundamental to their process.

They encourage the selective harvesting of only ripe cherries, which, once they arrive at the washing station, are strictly sorted by quality into different batches within 8 hours of their arrival.

The coffee is then pulped and fermented in clean water overnight for 12-18 hours. The following morning, it is washed and sorted in concrete channels.

The drying process begins on raised beds in the shade for a couple of days, where another selection is made, followed by a longer time on African tables in the sun with constant rotation and continuous selection to ensure uniform drying and minimize the possibility of defects.
