Description
History and Flavor of La Finca El Capitán – Costa Rican Specialty Coffee
Finca El Capitan, located in the picturesque Santa Ana region of Costa Rica's Central Valley, has a history dating back to 1800, when it was known to locals as "Finca La Mina," due to its original function of transporting water to a nearby mine. However, the true coffee story for this family began in the 1960s when Don Eladio's father began growing coffee, initially with common varieties like Typica, and later incorporating Caturra and Catuaí.
For many years, the farm was operated by three brothers, but a decade ago, one of them, Don Eladio Morales, decided to manage his own plot of land. This decision was due to several challenges, such as disease and productivity issues. Over the past decade, Don Eladio has been committed to improving farming methods. He has implemented improved fertilization practices and disease control, and has carried out a significant renovation of the coffee plantations, incorporating new varieties such as Geisha, San Isidro 48 (Sarchimor), Java, and several Ethiopian varieties, among others.
In every cup of coffee from La Finca El Capitán, you'll find the rich history of a family dedicated to excellence in coffee growing and roasting.
