Description
Nyamasheke - Rwanda
C.Dorman/Cotecaga CWS began operations in 2006 with several partners. However, after its construction, a lack of financing for the purchase of cherries and maintenance of the machinery led to financial difficulties with banks and, above all, with farmers.
In 2012, C.Dorman Rwanda began leasing the CWS washing station and, in early 2013, fully acquired it. Over the past few years, the impact on the community has been remarkable: microcredit services for farmers have been developed, 15 producer groups have been created, and the region has experienced economic growth with new businesses and an increase in school enrollment.
C.Dorman Cotecaga, in collaboration with NAEB (National Agricultural Export Board), is actively involved in the supply of fertilizers and pesticides, in addition to sponsoring Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) training programs and certifications. It has also created more than 100 jobs in the community.
To improve production in Nyamasheke - RwandaCoffee seedling nurseries and shade trees have been prepared for free distribution to farmers. In addition, contributions have been made to the construction of key infrastructure such as bridges and secondary roads. Currently, the washing station serves 742 smallholders and has 80 drying tables in optimal condition for the next harvest. The CWS is connected to the single-phase electrical grid, enabling lighting and the operation of the pulper motor.
