San Agustín Photography Prize

Origin

The San Agustín Photography Prize is an international author documentary photography competition focused on the origin of coffee: its producers, its landscapes and the communities of the territories where its cycle begins.

Founded in León, Spain, by San Agustín Tostadores de Café, the prize uses contemporary photography to shift attention from mass consumption towards the geographical and human realities that sustain the global chain. Against the visibility of the finished product, it reclaims what is hidden: the land, the climate cycles and the hands traditionally absent from the commercial narrative.

Independence

The prize neither conditions the photographer's vision nor interferes with the author's discourse. The work always belongs to its creator; selection rests exclusively with an independent jury. The cash award and the absence of an entry fee remove barriers to participation for photographers from any territory.

The origin of coffee is a complex human territory, and it deserves to be documented with the same rigour applied to any other reality of the contemporary world.
